Bassoon Reed
Bassoon reed cleaning?
Every week or two, after practicing, I clean my bassoon reeds by spraying them with a mixture of Listerine mouthwash and water. Is this bad?
I play the oboe, so I learned 2 things about double reed.
1. They are dam expensive
2. The only thing you should put on the reed is water. (Not even saliva. Saliva would cover the reed so the reed would not vibrate as much.)
Spraying Listerine (i believe) would shorten the reed life span and you would not get a good tone out of it (just like using ur saliva)
just soak your reed in water for 5-10 min (depending how long you haven’t played) in water and it would be almost good as new.
P.S. Please help save my school’s music program by voting for us in the Glee contest
