Tarnish Strips
a question about flute maintainence and care?
i havent played flute in a few months because of a problem, but i just opened it back up today and i noticed there are brown spots on my flute (what im assuming to be tarnish; my flute is silver plated). my flute case came with a “tarnish strips” piece of paper and ive left that in the case, but its about 10 months old now.
so my question is, how can i remove the tarnish? i noticed it forming around the difficult places on my flute, so cleaning it wouldnt be too easy. can u pay a place to clean the tarnish off? also, are u supposed to replace those tarnish strips every so often? if so, where can i buy them? one last thing, i polish my flute with a microfiber cloth, will that prevent tarnish from happenign or do i need a special “anti-tarnish” type polishing cloth?
I think you can get a professional to polish it (ask you music teacher or go to a music store) (especially for the hard to reach places).
tarnish strip is replaced every 6 month.
polish you flute every month. I believe it will clean some off but tarnish will from anyway eventually.
