Clarinet Saxophone
Do I need to be an oboe player to play English Horn?
Im interested in playing English horn but I do not play oboe. Should I learn oboe before taking up English horn or can I just start out with English horn. I play piano, clarinet, saxophone, and flute.
I played oboe in middle school and high school. Though it is not required to know how to play oboe to play english horn, it is sooooo helpful. The fingerings are the same with both instrument and so is the embouchure, so transition is easier. Since you play single reed instruments, the transition to a double reed will be much harder.
